  • Things to consider when buying an air conditioner

    • Efficiency – The efficiency of a central air conditioning system is measured by the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER). SEER measures the ratio of cooling capacity to power input. So, the higher the number, the more efficient the system. Or, in other words, a high SEER means you are getting more cooling power out of the same amount of energy. In general, newer systems have a better SEER. The federal government began requiring manufacturers to build systems with a minimum 14 SEER starting in 2015. Cooling systems these days are built with SEER ratings between 14 and 21.

    • Size – One of the most important things to consider when buying an air conditioning systems for your home is the size of the unit. It has to be large enough to cool your house, but not too large so it wastes energy. At the same time, it can’t be too small, otherwise it will have to work overtime to cool your house – and may never achieve the goal on hot summer days (and nights). One of Banner Furnace and Fuel’s cooling experts can help determine the right system for your space - residential or commercial.

    • Installation – When you have decided to install or replace an air conditioning system, you shouldn’t overlook the importance of proper installation. Hiring qualified technicians for the job ensures your A/C system will be effective, efficient, reliable and safe. Cutting corners during the installation process can only lead to disappointment. At Banner Furnace and Fuel, we take pride in the quality of our work. After all, our goal is total home comfort, and it’s been that way since the 1920's!

    • Maintenance – Once your air conditioner is installed properly and your home is finally cool again, is that all you need to do? Yes and no. Even the best systems need to be properly maintained to ensure reliability and lasting comfort. We recommend periodic service checks to avoid costly breakdowns. And Banner Furnace and Fuel has the Guardian Plan, which covers most parts and labor in case of cooling emergencies.

  • Heat pumps are the most efficient cooling systems available. Instead of simply producing cool air like a typical furnace of air conditioner, a heat pump provides year-round comfort by transferring heat from one source to another. The result is a more energy efficient system as compared to a typical electric, gas, oil or propane system. A heat pump can save you money in the long run!
